Even though Daimler Truck Southern Africa has been functioning independently for some time, the transition was formally completed this week with the unveiling of its purposefully eco-friendly headquarters and campus close to Pretoria.

The main headquarters, a training facility, retail facilities for both used and new vehicles, and a separate Daimler Truck Financial Services organization are all located on the 12-hectare campus.

The DTSA headquarters and TruckStore facilities, which house 600 employees around the site, were built with the explicit goal of establishing a comfortable and sustainable workplace. Features like facades and windows that are screened to reduce solar heat gain while lowering electrical loads were included in the design.

Low heat gains and losses are further ensured by high-specification low-E double glazing. In order to accommodate future solar installation and rainwater collecting on one facade, the roof slopes toward the north. While 752 solar panels produce 350 kW of electricity, parking spaces and roof spaces are used to create electricity and lessen dependency on non-renewable sources.

"I am excited to be part of the DTSA headquarters' inauguration, reaffirming our commitment into one of our strategic markets in Africa," says Karin Rådström, Member of the Board of Management Daimler Truck AG and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Trucks. The investment demonstrates our deep passion for people and the variety for which South Africa is known in addition to confirming our position as a major player on the international commercial vehicle scene. The team is now appropriately equipped with the new headquarters to serve our customers in this crucial area for Daimler Truck.

Following a promise to invest R190 million in South Africa, Daimler Truck opened the new facility, which required 180 000 bricks to build. An additional R20 million was used to upgrade facilities on the truck line at the Mercedes-Benz manufacturing facility in East London.

"As a team, we are truly humbled by how far we have come since becoming an independent company on December 1, 2021," said Michael Dietz, president and CEO of Daimler Truck Southern Africa Ltd. This day signals a tremendous beginning for us, and I'm looking forward to developing a terrific workplace for our staff, while also fully satisfying our clients and continuing to provide for those who keep Africa going. The establishment of this remarkable facility began in the first quarter of 2021 and included the acquisition of the campus, renovation of the current offices, the addition of a facility specifically for DTSA training, and most notably, the building of the new Daimler Truck Southern Africa headquarters offices added Michael.

The beautiful and spacious offices were formally opened by Ms Nomalungelo Gina; Deputy Minister of Trade Industry and Economic Development for the Republic of South Africa, Karin Rådström; Member of the Board of Management Daimler Truck AG and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, Stephan Unger; Member of the Board of Management Daimler Truck AG and Head of Financial Services, Andreas Peschke; German Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa/eSwatini/Lesotho, Andreas von Wallfeld; Head of Daimler Truck Overseas, Michael Dietz; President and CEO Daimler Truck Southern Africa, together with the DTSA Board of Directors.

"Our crew in South Africa feels at home at the new headquarters. In order to offer integrated transport solutions to our consumers, the idea of combining sales, marketing, and financial services under one roof is a smart move, according to Stephan Unger.

Daimler Truck Overseas CEO Andreas von Wallfeld stated, "I am very pleased of our new home for our employees here in South Africa. Being truly customer-centric and having an all-inclusive commercial vehicle campus that handles every area of our business is a benchmark.”

One of DTSA's strengths is its dedication to customer service. Understanding them comes naturally to them. They'll create innovations that genuinely address customer issues. DTSA tackles its work from a long-term perspective. They don't make concessions only to get things fixed quickly. Their objective is to find sustainable solutions. The brand-new state of the art building serves as evidence of these qualities.
