Which 2020 Mazda3 to buy?
“Affordable premium” may sound like a bit far-fetched, but believe us, at every price point of the Mazda3, and at every body style, there is value to be had. So far there are a total of 5 variants to choose from, 2 for the sedan, and 3 for the Sportback.
In either form, both cars look devilishly handsome with lines and curves that evoke passions and feelings that only Mazda cars can deliver. The new update brings a slightly higher price tag than what was being offered a generation ago, but the increase could well be worth it. Let’s go over which one to pick in this variant comparison guide.
So, it starts with a naturally-aspirated 1.5-liter engine that produces 90kW and 146 Nm of torque. It’s not the most potent of engines you can find in a compact sedan or hatchback, the price is still justified by the high-quality fit and finish and a good set of features. When you buy a Mazda vehicle, chassis engineering and driver-centric design are the main features that enthrall and entwine drivers in the feeling of control. It’s like a fitted suit, you can move comfortably, and look damn good doing it.
2020 Mazda3 infotainment system
The features that you pay for in the base trim include the 8.8-inch non-touch infotainment screen that comes equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Mazda also outfits this system with a set of 8 speakers from Mazda Harmonic Acoustics. You also get the full slew of airbags with a total of 7 encompassing every part of the cabin. A smart keyless entry system with push-start is also standard, as well as a rearview camera complemented by proximity sensors.
2020 Mazda3 Headlights
The powerful LED headlights that are good enough to light up the road fully without the need for fog lamps find their way on all models for the Mazda3. These units present themselves with a good value for consumers since a good lighting system can be had even at the lower prices.
The flagship compact from Mazda Philippines comes with a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine. While it may seem like Mazda is behind the times in terms of engine tech, the SkyActiv-G engine still remains as the most powerful naturally-aspirated offering in the Philippines in a compact car. With 113kW and 200 Nm of torque, the Mazda3’s engine is no slouch and still can keep up with the rest of the competition fairly well.
2020 Mazda3 Bose Sound System
Here is where the Mazda3 has a leg up on every other car in its class. The Premium variant has everything that the Elite has, and more. Instead of just a backup camera, you get a whole array of lenses to show you a 360-degree view of the vehicle. The same 8.8-inch infotainment system can be found in the Premium variants but with a 12-speaker Bose sound system that features top-notch sound quality and depth. Instead of 16-inch wheels found one the Elite variant, the Premium variant rolls on 17-inches with a slightly darker hue and design being found on the Sportback.
2020 Mazda3 Cruise Control
On top of the other additions, you get Mazda’s I-ACTIVSENSE suite of active safety features, which include adaptive radar cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning with lane-keep assist, Smart brake support forward and back, as well as driver attention alert warning.
For those who say enough is not enough, the Speed variant is perfect for you. All of the features between the Speed and Premium trims are the same, save for a few color changes in the interior, and body kits. This variant is only available for the Sportback.
Exterior features gloss black additions to the bumpers and side skirts. This appearance makes the Mazda3 look different from other models. Another difference this model has is the red and black interior.
So all models are rather similar in their specs, with a few key features and a larger displacement engine being found in higher trims. It is clear between models that the car features more incentives to go up the variant ladder, but not all variants have good value for money for everyone.
2020 Mazda3 Elite Sedan Exterior
Even at its most affordable, the 1.5-liter Mazda3s look promising. The Elite variants, whether in a Sportback or sedan body style, make for a good buy. This variant is our runner up since the only thing you’re really missing is the 360-degree camera, and the power and torque of the 2.0-liter engine.
2020 Mazda3 Premium Sportback
The winner is undoubtedly the Premium trims. There are features that can be found in more premium cars, but, what really helps this variant win are the active safety features. You undoubtedly get the full Mazda3 experience that the brand wants everyone to enjoy, and enjoy it you will. Speed, power, and tech all make for a very compelling package. If you want to go the extra mile, then the Speed variant is for you, though we’d be very happy with the Premium.
