The Hard Worker
Introducing the new GWM Steed 5 Single Cab Facelift. With hard work in mind, we have created the ultimate workhorse tool to assist in growing your business from strength to strength and to move you and your family from A to B in style and comfort. Based on a rugged ladder-frame chassis and featuring a double-insulated load bin with several tie-down points, the Steed 5 Facelift is ready to handle the big jobs so that you do not have to. All Steed 5 Single Cab Facelift models now vaunt a more refined and polished look with the upgraded bigger grille. Additional features include remote control locking, radio and USB, two low tone speakers, electric windows, electric adjustable side mirrors, and electric height adjustable headlamps. With this tough, feature-packed workhorse you could just about take over the world!
Performances
The numbers do not lie in terms of engine performance, and the increases are apparent. Engine output is increased by 5kW and 15Nm compared to the outgoing model, with the torque being delivered earlier in the rev range at 1400rpm some 400rpm lower than before, so turbo lag is significantly reduced.
The 2022 Steed range offers 110kW at 4000rpm and 320Nm of torque between 1400rpm and 2800rpm. GWM has not provided official fuel consumption figures for the upgraded engine just yet, but we have requested a test drive of the 2022 Steed to assess the bakkie along our 100km combined cycle fuel loop in Johannesburg. Ensure that you are subscribed to our newsletter, that way you do not miss that road test coming up soon. The Workhorse has been designed to tackle challenges head-on, so leave the hard work to the new Steed 5 Facelift.

P Series Cab Bakkie (Available Ex-Stock)

The Big Business Bakkie
When you Seeing the P-Series single cab in person, its gigantic size will baffle you. The load bin is massive. Seriously the folk needing to move big things will never go wrong with the P-Series single cab. Outside, the P-Series proves to be quite stylish too with the front coming with a black meshed pattern grille. On the road, its instantly recognizable with its large 17-inch alloy wheels guaranteed to capture all bystander’s attention. There are some things to fault its exterior however as the parts do feel like it is made from lower quality. This is where that value for money decision really comes to play as although it looks large and mighty in person, will it be durable when it comes to doing the heavy lifting?
Performance
At first, the P-Series may not look as intimidating as one would expect but trust us, its 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine more than delivers. Producing a neat 120kW of power and 400 Nm of torque, the P-Series proves that it can certainly handle its own on the road. The only big critique however must be its turbo delay, which is not exactly consumer-friendly given how massive its single cab is. The single cab does only come in a 6-speed manual transmission, which may seem a bit intimidating at first but proves to be quite delightful to handle. Overall, its drive packed quite a decent amount of power and despite its larger-than-life statue, was quite enjoyable on and off the road.
Interior
The cabin of the P-Series is in our opinion one of the best value-for-money interiors ever featured in a single cab. Unlike other brands which pay a little less attention to their cabins, the P-Series has certainly pulled out all the stops to make sure their driver and passenger remain comfortable. Stepping inside you can expect a range of features such as a 9-inch touchscreen interface infotainment system that offers both Apple Carplay and Android Auto as well as a reverse camera, that comes in handy when manoeuvring this massive bakkie. Its seats also proved to be quite comfortable and although we can critique the cabin’s not-so-great sound system, it is important to remember that this is perhaps one of the best value for money single cab on the market.
