All new Mitsubishi off-road models set to take on competition.
The 2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will take on the Ford Everest and the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.
DRIVEtorque can reveal that the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton, a whole new workhorse, will make its debut in Zimbabwe this year. A more powerful Pajero Sport will follow, allowing it to take on rivals like the Everest and Prado from Toyota in the crossover SUV market.

While the focus is now on Triton, the Pajero Sport, the company's ladder-frame off-road SUV, will likely get the upgrades made to the new bakkie, allowing it to have greater power and torque.

The original source of the report, DRIVEtorque, claims that the new Triton will still use a diesel engine but will most likely have twin turbocharging to increase power and fuel efficiency.

The current range from Mitsubishi boasts "newly developed engine, suspension, interior, and exterior, which has resulted in significant improvements in driving performance, comfort, and safety," according to the press release.

The company has been mum on details on the Pajero Sport as of late, but speculation has it that the SUV variant would get a similar set of updates. They anticipate the Pajero Sport to take the range by storm in the years to come.

The global promotion of the Pajero Sport is Mitsubishi's objective. In their opinion, Pajero Sport has room to grow and improve. All over, it will be more comfortable, faster, and have a better engine. They think these things are present in the Pajero Sport.

Existing Pajero Sport models provide 133kW and 430Nm from a 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine; the Triton and new SUV are expected to offer additional power.

To get there, the company is said to employ twin-turbocharging, which would swap out the current engine's one turbo for two. The Nissan Navara follows a similar strategy; the basic model has 120 kW and 403 Nm of torque from a single turbocharger, while the higher trim levels have 140 kW and 450 Nm from twin turbos.

With the same approach, Mitsubishi may be able to increase power by 15-20 kW and torque by more than 20 Nm. This means that the next-gen Triton and Pajero Sport should aim for 480 Nm of torque and 150 kW of power, with 500 Nm being the top target.

With the technology, safety, and refinement upgrades planned for the Pajero Sport, it will be able to compete with competitors like the Everest (based on the Ford Ranger) and the Land Cruiser Prado.

In an attempt to boost sales and market share, Japanese automaker Mitsubishi has designated Southern Africa as a "core business region" and promised to devote significant resources to the area.

Mitsubishi management intends to boost sales, market share, and income by concentrating on these critical business domains.

We can’t wait for the new Triton, and we hope it will move from a bakkie with potential to a serious competitor locally. The revamped Pajero Sport is expected to be unveiled in the year 2025. The Mitsubishi brand used to be big locally, but we believe it is on the rise again with new exciting and competitive products.
