Hyundai restyles the Grand i10 and adds a sedan variant.
The South African incarnation of Hyundai's entry-level hatchback, the Grand i10, has recently debuted with updated exterior styling, revised inside amenities, and a new sedan variant.

Two different gasoline engines, one with three cylinders and one with four, are still offered for the redesigned third-generation Grand i10 hatchback. The two Grand i10 sedan variants are powered exclusively by the latter engine.

The 1.2-liter engine may provide power to the front wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission in addition to the 5-speed manual.

"Hyundai's best-selling model in South Africa has proven itself to be a dependable hatchback with a long list of standard equipment and excellent fuel economy. According to Hyundai Automotive South Africa's director of sales, operations, and commercial vehicles Stanley Anderson, "the designers have given the Grand i10 an attractive mid-life makeover, while retaining the well-rounded package that this model has become known for."

As we have come to expect from Hyundai's models over a long period of time, the designers have done a fantastic job with the new Grand i10. According to Anderson, "it gives the impression of a much larger car, and it feels like one thanks to its impressive handling and road manners."

The Grand i10 hatchback's new design is striking.

A beautiful, larger, and broader honeycomb grille that spans almost the whole front area of the Grand i10 hatchback replaced the previous generation's hexagonal grille. It makes the vehicle appear wider and more robust.

The front end has been thoroughly cleaned up, and the boomerang-shaped daytime running lights on the outer sides of the grille (on Fluid models) are the finishing touch.

The makeover was gentler in the back, but the end result is a view that is less fussy and lovelier than before. The rear lights now have a new, more attractive arrangement, and the horizontal lines have been streamlined.

The 2017 Grand i10 hatchback hasn't changed much from the side, but the Fluid variants get new 15-inch alloy wheels while the Motion variants get new 14-inch styled wheel covers.

Typhoon Silver, Titan Gray, Fiery Red, Phantom Black, Atlas White, and a beautiful new Spark Green are just some of the exterior colors available for the 2017 Grand i10. Grand i10s with the Fluid trim level also come with a black roof in addition to Phantom White, Fiery Red, and Spark Green.

There are no two-tone exterior color possibilities for the Grand i10 sedan, and the Spark Green has been replaced by the dark Starry Night.

Identical layouts with a plethora of optional extras
The hatchback version of the Grand i10 has an all-black interior, while the sedan version has a blend of black and grey on the front dashboard and the inner door trims.

All variations feature black cloth seats and black dashboards, with red accents around the air vents and on the seats. Both the Fluid and the Motion variants come standard with a manually operated air conditioner and an 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

When the vehicle is put into reverse, a picture from the rear-view camera is displayed on the infotainment screen. This is a standard function.

Electric window switches, an electrically adjustable outside rearview mirror, and three different phone-charging choices (a modern USB-C port, a conventional 12V port, and a USB port) are all standard on all trims. Fluid models have electrically retractable outer mirrors.

The steering wheel of the Fluid variants is multi-functional, with buttons for the cruise control, audio system, and phone, whereas the Motion variant's wheel just features audio and phone controls.

When compared to the Motion, the premium hatchback Fluid's rear bench can be folded down in a 60:40 split to increase cargo space, whereas the Motion just has a single bench backrest that can be folded down.
Both the steering wheel and the driver's seat can be adjusted for the driver's comfort.

The Grand i10 has an unusually extensive standard feature set for a car in this price range, including air vents and a USB charging port in the rear seat center console of all hatchback and sedan variants.

The Grand i10 series is powered by either a 998 cc 3-cylinder engine or a 1 197 cc Kappa 4-cylinder engine with either a manual or automatic transmission. The 1-liter engine, found in the Motion and Fluid hatchback variants, produces 48,5 kW at 5 500 r/min. and 94 Nm at 3 500 r/min., while the 1.2-liter engine, found in the sedan, produces 61 kW at 6000 r/min. and 114 Nm at 4000 r/min. in both the Motion and Fluid variants.

The 1-liter engine, together with a 5-speed manual transmission, provides sufficient power to the front-drive wheels, even at the high altitude of Gauteng. The sedan, as well as the 1.2-liter Motion and Fluid hatchback variants, are available with a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The Grand i10 hatchback's combined city/highway fuel economy was rated at 5.5 L/100 km when equipped with the 1-liter engine and 5-speed manual transmission, and 5.9 L/100 km when equipped with the 4-speed automatic transmission.

The 1,2-liter Grand i10 Fluid with a manual 5-speed transmission uses 5.9 liters per 100 kilometers, whereas the same vehicle with a 4-speed automatic uses 6.9 liters per 100 kilometers. The Grand i10 sedan's average fuel consumption was 5,5 liters/100 kilometers when driven manually and 5,7 liters/100 kilometers when driven automatically.

The front suspension consists of MacPherson struts with shock absorbers, and the rear suspension is a linked torsion beam with shock absorbers.

Safety
There are airbags for the driver and front passenger in every new Grand i10 model, as well as ISOFIX anchors in the back for child safety seats and seatbelt pretensioners up front.
